Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Calls for Stronger Integrity Culture to Combat Public Fund Leakages

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for stronger integrity practices and governance reforms to address the issue of public fund leakages and abuse of power.

Chairing the meeting of the National Governance Special Cabinet Committee, Anwar highlighted that corruption and misuse of authority not only undermine national governance but also negatively impact public welfare, including healthcare, environmental protection and national integrity.

He stressed that enforcement alone is not sufficient to tackle corruption, and must be complemented by a broader culture of integrity and good governance across the public sector, private sector and society.

Among the key decisions reached at the meeting was the implementation of the Certified Integrity Officer Programme, aimed at strengthening institutional integrity and promoting ethical governance.

The committee also agreed to intensify the national corruption prevention agenda through greater stakeholder participation and improved strategic coordination among government agencies.

Anwar reiterated that the government remains committed to strengthening governance reforms to ensure transparency and integrity remain the foundation of public service, while reinforcing public confidence in national institutions.
