Traffic to the East Coast Starts to Congest, North-South Route Still Smooth

A spokesman for the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said the congestion occurred from Gombak to Genting Sempah and from Bukit Tinggi to Lentang. Traffic flow heading north and south was still smooth and congestion only occurred from Bandar Baharu to Jawi following a broken down lorry. “LLM expects traffic flow to start increasing from this afternoon following the 50 per cent toll discount from midnight last night until 11.59pm tomorrow,” he said when contacted by Bernama. The public is urged to comply with the set speed limit and always monitor the safe distance between their vehicles throughout the journey.

UMNO Open Doors to Re-Accept Members, Strengthens Party

The "Rumah Bangsa" initiative by UMNO is seen as an extraordinary approach to strengthen the party in the Peninsular and Sabah, said UMNO Supreme Council Member Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan. He said the effort was also aimed at ensuring UMNO remained relevant not only during the election season but at all times. Ahmad, who is also Deputy Minister of Works, said a special committee had been established to manage applications, including from leaders who had been sacked or left the party, to rejoin UMNO. "Our approach is to 'forgive and forget'. When other parties took action to sack members, we opened the door to welcome them back," he said when met at the Breaking of Fast Ceremony with the Media and the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Sarawak here today. The Pontian MP said several figures had shown interest in rejoining UMNO and further announcements would be made from time to time. Aidilfitri: Free Service For Ferries, SPPP Sponsors Kids Go Free At Museum

Penang Port Commission (SPPP) Chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said the free ferry fare is a manifestation of his and Penang Port Sdn Bhd's (PPSB) ongoing commitment to making it easier for people to travel, especially during the festive season. "This free ferry service is not only aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Penang, but also to encourage the use of more sustainable and efficient public transport," he said in a statement tonight. In line with the initiative to provide free ferry services and the SPPP's 70th Anniversary (Platinum Jubilee) Celebration this year, Yeoh said SPPP was also sponsoring the implementation of a community programme through the "Kids Go Free | Aidilfitri Special" campaign at the Penang Ferry Museum here. He said the programme would allow Malaysian children aged 12 and below to enjoy free entry to the ferry museum from March 23 to 25. Yeoh said the initiative also complements SPPP's efforts in strengthening the role of the Penang Ferry Museum as a heritage-based learning and attraction centre.
