Joseph Vijay as its new chief minister. Its chairman, Dr Maszlee Malik, said the bureau aims to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the fields of education, youth empowerment, technology, culture and regional cooperation. “Malaysia and Tamil Nadu share longstanding historical and cultural bonds, especially through the vibrant Malaysian Indian community, whose roots and heritage remain closely connected to Tamil civilisation and identity,” he said in a statement today. Maszlee also congratulated Vijay on his appointment, noting that the victory reflects the democratic aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu and signals a new chapter of leadership grounded in hope, reform, and the empowerment of ordinary citizens. He further noted that the bureau recognises the deep political consciousness and rich civilisational heritage of the Indian state, citing its contributions to social justice and economic development as an inspiration to the wider region. “We believe that the strengthening of democratic institutions, inclusive governance, and people-centred policies remains essential in navigating the challenges of our time,” he said. Maszlee also extended his well-wishes to the new Chief Minister, wishing him wisdom and success in serving the people of Tamil Nadu with justice and compassion. Datuk Seri Dr. Zahid Hamidi Reaffirms UMNO’s Historic Mission at Johor Palace Steps

JOHOR BAHRU, May 12 — Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reaffirmed that UMNO must continue to serve as the “House of the Nation” in safeguarding the dignity of the Malays, Islam, and the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers as the party commemorates its historic 80th anniversary. In a symbolic gathering held at the historic staircase of the Johor Palace — the very site where UMNO was founded on May 11, 1946 — Zahid said the moment was not merely to relive history, but to strengthen the spirit of struggle that shaped the nation’s independence. “Back on the stairs of history, we remember the sacrifices and determination of past leaders who united to defend religion, race, homeland, and the sovereignty of the Malay Kings,” he said. According to Zahid, the same spirit that gave birth to UMNO eight decades ago must continue to guide the party through modern political challenges and national responsibilities. He said the return of UMNO leaders to the historic location symbolised a renewal of commitment to carry the trust of the people faithfully, courageously, and responsibly. Zahid also expressed his deepest appreciation to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim for consenting to the historic photography session, describing it as a meaningful moment for the entire UMNO family. He further extended gratitude to Tunku Ismail Idris, the Regent of Johor, for his support and presence during the commemorative event. “History reminds us that the strength of a nation is born from unity among the people, loyalty to the institution of the Malay Rulers, and sincerity in serving religion, race, and country,” he added. The UMNO president stressed that the party will continue to uphold its founding principles and remain steadfast in defending the interests of the nation and ensuring stability for future generations. “Then, now, and forever — UMNO will continue to be the House of the Nation,” he said. -- MINUTESMY -- SOURCE: FB ZAHID HAMIDI
