AirBorneo Warns Of More Flight Disruptions In Sabah, Sarawak

KUCHING, June 8 -- AirBorneo has advised passengers to expect possible delays, cancellations and schedule changes over the coming days as it continues to manage operational disruptions affecting flights across Sabah and Sarawak since June 5. In a statement today, the airline said unscheduled technical rectification work on several aircraft, ongoing scheduled maintenance, and operational and crew duty requirements caused the disruptions. AirBorneo said safety remained its top priority, stressing that aircraft requiring technical attention had been withdrawn from service as a precaution until engineers were fully satisfied that they were fit to fly. "With several aircraft undergoing maintenance and technical rectification concurrently, our operating fleet remains temporarily constrained. "As a result, passengers should anticipate the possibility of further schedule changes, cancellations and delays over the coming days as aircraft are progressively returned to service," it said. AirBorneo urged passengers travelling during this period to check their flight status before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience. The airline said its teams were working around the clock to minimise disruptions and re-accommodate affected passengers on the earliest available alternative flights. AirBorneo said it remained committed to restoring its full flight schedule as quickly as possible without compromising safety, while continuing to provide reliable air connectivity across Sabah and Sarawak. The airline also thanked passengers for their patience and understanding during the disruption. Affected passengers are being contacted directly and may also reach AirBorneo's Customer Care team at +60-82-537 555 (international) or 1-300-22-1388 (local), or visit airborneo.com/en/contact-us for the latest updates, rebooking and assistance. -- BERNAMA

PERKESO Uncovers Daya Kerjaya Incentive Claim Fraud Via AFEI Monitoring

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 -- Fraudulent claims under the Daya Kerjaya programme incentive have been successfully uncovered through continuous internal controls implemented by the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) since late 2024, leading to a series of arrests. PERKESO group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the discovery proves the effectiveness of the artificial intelligence (AI) driven internal monitoring system under its Anti-Fraud, Ethics and Integrity (AFEI) division in identifying irregularities or anomalies for further scrutiny. “Every irregularity will be followed up with immediate action by a special task force that conducts field intelligence to verify whether the claim is legitimate or contains elements of fraud. “Since late 2024, PERKESO’s AFEI has been gathering evidence before submitting information to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for enforcement and arrests,” he said in a statement today. He added that PERKESO’s internal controls and cooperation with MACC have led to the exposure of fraudulent activities under the Daya Kerjaya 1.0 and 2.0 schemes to date. Mohammed Azman said the close cooperation between PERKESO and the MACC continues under Ops Tunjang, which has led to the exposure of white-collar criminal fraud activities, including those involving medical practitioners. In this regard, he said PERKESO will continue to strengthen its internal controls to combat fraudulent activities that seek to misappropriate social security funds meant for those in need, particularly contributors and their dependents. “PERKESO does not compromise on any cases of fraud. Through the technology available within the AFEI division, every claim will be subject to strict monitoring. “We wish to emphasise to all parties, both internal and external, that PERKESO will continue to work with the authorities and take firm action to combat fraud, misappropriation, and manipulation of claims,” he said. -- BERNAMA

Expanding its partnership with non-profits, EZVIZ upgrades its Green Initiative to make a true impact on harmony between humans and nature with a week-long advocacy campaign

HOOFDDORP, Netherlands, June 8 -- EZVIZ, a world-leading smart home brand, announced to enter a new chapter of its EZVIZ Green Initiative by expanding environmental protection with two multi-year projects. Under the theme "Clean. Conserve. Coexist.", the brand is launching a green advocacy week across the World Environment Day and World Oceans Day to engage partners and users in larger joint actions. By combining calls for climate resilience and ocean protection, EZVIZ responds to environmental issues with a larger proposition of sustainable coexistence between humans and nature.    "In the new phase, EZVIZ Green eyes on ecological vitality that benefits both people and other creatures," said Joanne Cao, EZVIZ Board Secretary and Director of the ESG Committee. Highlighting its year-long projects with Treedom, a world-leading tree planting platform, and Plastic Bank, a global pioneer in ocean protection, EZVIZ tries to involve local communities more deeply to balance environmental protection with economic value. This aligns with the United Nations' appeal to repair the relationship between humans and the planet. By building a positive cycle where people can gain from a vital ecosystem, it helps shape sustainability that endures over time, fulfilling its role as the participant in the UNGC and contributing to the SDGs. "Like humans, all creatures are stakeholders of this planet," said Cao. "With our Green Initiative, we aim to help create healthy ecosystems where nature and people complement each other." The EZVIZ Green upgrade drives change from land to sea through partnerships with Treedom and Plastic Bank. With Treedom, EZVIZ supports local farmers in planting trees, integrating agriculture with forestry across 11 countries. Estimated to reduce more than 738.2 tons of CO₂ in the next decade at the current scale, the growing global forest is expected to exceed 6,000 trees by 2027, further improving food security and economic development. In the new collaborative year, forest cover will extend to more regions across Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa, focusing on vital ecological areas like Ecuador to offset climate change. Through Plastic Bank, EZVIZ helps combat plastic pollution by engaging collectors worldwide to gather bottles for additional income. To date, it has enabled the recycling of 1,000,000 bottles, prevented 20,000 kg of plastic from polluting water, and empowered collectors from 29 communities with exchanged social benefits. This year, EZVIZ concentrates on Southeast Asia, home to one of the world's longest coastal archipelagos, to implement more careful and systematic plastic recycling, creating leverage to boost marine biodiversity and economic stability. As part of the Initiative, EZVIZ also synergizes external cooperation with internal practices to amplify its impact. It strives for green innovation and launched the 4G battery camera family this year, which minimizes energy consumption without compromising safety. Innovation is in high gear to enhance wild animal detection, offering greater protection for both users and wildlife in remote areas. -- PRNewswire -- Source: EZVIZ

Home Ministry Launches Special Operation Against Foreigners Running Illegal Businesses

PUTRAJAYA, June 8 -- The Home Ministry(KDN), through its enforcement agencies, is mobilising a special operation to crack down on illegal business activities carried out by foreigners who misuse social visit passes in the country. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the move follows instructions from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who had raised concerns over the issue following numerous public complaints. He said agencies under the ministry, including the Immigration Department and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), would intensify enforcement efforts to curb such activities. “The Prime Minister himself has received complaints on this matter. As such, the relevant agencies have been instructed to strengthen enforcement actions. Of course, we will investigate offences under the Immigration Act,” he told reporters after the ministry’s monthly assembly here today. Earlier, the prime minister, in his speech at the Communications Ministry’s monthly assembly, directed the relevant ministries and enforcement agencies to take firm and comprehensive action against illegal business activities involving foreigners. He said the proposed measures should be implemented immediately through coordinated efforts involving all relevant agencies, including the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), local authorities (PBT), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM According to Saifuddin, the Home Ministry possesses the necessary expertise and intelligence capabilities to track foreigners involved in illegal business operations. “We have identified hotspots and mapped locations where foreigners are known to be violating the Immigration Act, whether by entering the country without valid documents, overstaying, or misusing their passes,” he said. According to him, many complaints from local traders stem from unfair competition created by foreigners operating businesses without complying with the same regulations and tax obligations. “They enter the country using social visit passes and then engage in business activities. The complaints from locals are mainly about unfair competition. “While local businesses pay taxes and comply with regulations, these individuals often do not, allowing them to offer services at significantly lower prices. Some operate as interior decorators, while others take furniture orders and conduct other commercial activities,” he said. Saifuddin Nasution added that the ministry has extensive experience in dealing with cases involving the misuse of social passes, particularly in Sabah. “As an example, through the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), we have taken action against resorts on Sabah’s east coast believed to be operated by foreigners who entered the country on passes that did not permit business activities. “We have conducted multi-agency operations in the area, led by ESSCOM, and enforcement actions have been carried out on three occasions over the past year,” he said. -- BERNAMA
