SEREMBAN, JULY 22 — Independent candidate for the Sri Tanjung State Legislative Assembly seat in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election, Islah Wahyudi Zainudin, has announced that he will be taken to court over a post on social media.
Islah Wahyudi, 46, said she received a notice regarding the charges from an officer of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) yesterday, and must appear at the Sepang, Selangor Sessions Court on August 11.
“MCMC officers came to my house at noon and it was about a post on social media Instagram last January. I agree and will appear (in court) as instructed.”
“I will, however, continue my campaign during the general election,” he told Bernama, here today.
Islah Wahyudi said charges would be laid under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
In this election, Islah Wahyudi faces a five-cornered fight involving the incumbent Datuk Dr G. Rajasekaran from Pakatan Harapan (PH), A. Achuthan (Barisan Nasional – BN), M. Leevineshwaraan (United Malaysian Indigenous Party – Bersatu) and Datuk A. Saravanan (Independent).
The Election Commission (EC) has set early voting for the Negeri Sembilan state election on July 28, with polling day on August 1.
