Negeri Sembilan election: 253 applications for speaking and activity permits approved

SEREMBAN: A total of 253 out of 276 applications to organise talks and political campaign activities for the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN) were approved from July 18 until yesterday.

Negeri Sembilan Police Chief, Datuk Alzafny Ahmad, said the police monitor all approved programmes and activities to ensure that their organisation complies with the law and does not affect public safety and order.

He said that during the same period, his party received 14 police reports and opened nine investigation papers, two of which were opened yesterday relating to election offences.

“Two investigation papers have been opened under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in the loss or damage of property,” he said in a statement today.

Alzafny said it involved the incident of removing the flag of a political party contesting the state election.

He said that, so far, the security and public order situation throughout the election process has been good and under control.

“The public is urged to continue to obey the law, respect the democratic process and provide full cooperation to the police to ensure that the Negeri Sembilan state election is held in a peaceful, harmonious and orderly atmosphere,” he said.

Early voting for the Negeri Sembilan state election is set for July 28, while polling day is August 1.
