Ismail Defends Negeri Sembilan MB Appointment Process

SEREMBAN, August 4 2026 — Datuk Ismail Lasim said his appointment as Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar was carried out in an orderly manner and in accordance with the prescribed procedures.

“I believe the appointment process was followed correctly,” he told reporters after officially beginning his duties at Wisma Negeri here today.

He was responding to a statement by Wawasan chairman Tan Sri Rais Yatim, who reportedly questioned the process of appointing the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, including claims of external interference in matters related to the state’s customs and constitutional provisions.

Ismail, who won the Juasseh state seat in the Negeri Sembilan state election, was sworn in as Menteri Besar before Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir at Istana Besar Seri Menanti last Sunday.

Barisan Nasional (BN) won 18 of the 36 state seats in the Negeri Sembilan state polls, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured seven, giving both coalitions a two-thirds majority to form the state government.
