IPOH, Aug 13 2026 The Perak police have seized various types of drugs worth RM46.32 million from January to Aug 10 this year.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the drugs seized included methamphetamine, ecstasy, heroin and cannabis, which accounted for the highest number of seizures in the state.
He said a total of 4,529 investigation papers had been opened under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Poisons Act, of which 4,327 had been brought to court.
“Action under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988 against all arrested drug traffickers has resulted in the seizure of various assets, including houses, land, jewellery, vehicles and bank accounts, worth more than RM4.35 million,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after officiating the disposal of drug and ketum case exhibits at the Perak contingent police headquarters (IPK) compound here today.
Meanwhile, Mohd Alwi said the IPK’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department had successfully arrested 12,916 drug offenders from January to Aug 10.
He said 1,934 people were arrested for various drug trafficking offences, an increase of eight per cent compared with 1,795 people during the same period last year.
A total of 299 people were arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, while 68 others were arrested under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
“Most of them were masterminds or financiers in syndicates that were busted this year,” he said.
“Regarding arrests for drug possession, 4,482 people were arrested, a decrease of 0.01 per cent compared with 4,509 people during the same period last year.
“For urine screening offences, 6,432 people were arrested, a decrease of four per cent compared with 6,697 people during the same period last year,” he said.
Meanwhile, 11 types of drugs, including cough medicine and ketum juice, estimated to be worth RM4,080,194.87 were disposed of today.
The disposal involved 5,000 investigation papers dating from 2000 to 2025 involving cases for which trials had been completed.
