KUALA LUMPUR — Akmal Saleh, the UMNO Youth chief and Merlimau assemblyman, has called for strict action not only against individuals who insult religious symbols but also against those who resort to violence and intimidation.
In a post on social media, Akmal said firm action should be taken against individuals who step on the trisula symbol, but stressed that other extreme acts such as threats, trespassing into homes and setting vehicles on fire were far more dangerous.
He said such actions threaten public safety and should be dealt with seriously by the authorities.
Akmal also urged law enforcement agencies to act fairly and impartially, stressing that any party found to have broken the law must face appropriate punishment.
According to him, enforcement should not be selective and must be carried out without favouring any side in order to uphold justice and maintain public order.
