KUALA LUMPUR, September 20 2026, A mobile police station will be deployed near the official residence of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Langgak Duta here from tomorrow as part of security preparations for any transfer from prison to the residence.
Sentul district police chief ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the mobile police station would be stationed at the residence from 7 am tomorrow.
He said the deployment was not intended to provide 24-hour security for Najib, but to facilitate security arrangements during the transfer process, including managing the presence of local and international media, neighbours, traffic and supporters.
On whether the residence had been confirmed as the location for Najib’s house arrest, Anuar Bakri said police had yet to receive official confirmation.
He said the Langgak Duta residence was among Najib’s official residences under the jurisdiction of the Sentul police district, while other residences could also be considered.
Anuar Bakri also said that, based on information received, the Malaysian Prisons Department would be responsible for monitoring Najib if he serves the remainder of his sentence under house arrest, rather than the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
He said four Prisons Department officers had inspected and assessed the residence yesterday.
“PDRM will only facilitate Datuk Seri Najib’s movement and, at the same time, ensure the safety of the media,” he said.
He added that police deployment during the process was expected to comprise one supervisor and two personnel, supported by a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit.
Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar was reported as saying yesterday that the standard operating procedures for Najib’s house arrest would cover matters including visits, security and monitoring of his movements once the relevant official letter was received.
On Friday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, consented to a conditional pardon allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine.
The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya at Istana Negara.
Najib has been serving his sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, following his conviction in the SRC International case.
