KUALA LUMPUR, September 20 2026, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Malaysia has rejected calls for Parliament to be dissolved following Transport Minister Anthony Loke’s offer to resign, saying the stability of the government is determined by the mandate and confidence of the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
AMK vice-chief Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said calls by certain quarters for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to dissolve Parliament did not reflect the current position of the MADANI Government.
He said the Unity Government continued to hold the mandate of the majority in the Dewan Rakyat, while the dissolution of Parliament was a constitutional power that should not be used as a means of applying political pressure.
Earlier, Kedah UMNO Strategic Communications director Syed Mohd Johan Rizal called on Anwar to dissolve Parliament following Loke’s offer to resign over the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Mohammed Taufiq said Loke’s decision should instead be viewed as an act of responsibility and did not indicate that the government was collapsing. He added that the final decision on the resignation rested with the Prime Minister.
The Youth and Sports Minister also disputed claims that the MADANI Government was “sinking”, citing Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of six per cent in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 5.4 per cent in the first quarter.
He said the economic performance reflected policy stability and investor confidence.
The Sungai Petani MP also said a snap election could create uncertainty, disrupt ongoing programmes and increase pressure on government expenditure.
He noted that UMNO remained part of the Unity Government and that party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously stated that UMNO would remain in the government until the end of its term.
