ALOR SETAR, September 20 2026, Kedah PKR says there is no urgent need to dissolve Parliament, rejecting a call by Kedah UMNO Strategic Communications director Syed Mohd Johan Rizal Syed Unan Mashri for a fresh mandate from voters.
Kedah PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) Communications director Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the call appeared to be driven by political interests rather than any pressing national need.
He said the MADANI Government remained stable and functioning, while UMNO was also part of the Unity Government and had representatives in the Cabinet.
Tunku Nashrul said UMNO should uphold the principle of collective responsibility and respect its president’s recent position that the party would remain in the Unity Government until the end of its term.
He also pointed to the GE15 Unity Government agreement, which provides for cooperation throughout the five-year term of the 15th Parliament.
He said the government should instead focus on the economy, cost of living and the well-being of the people, rather than creating political uncertainty.
Earlier, Syed Mohd Johan Rizal called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to dissolve Parliament and allow the people to decide on the government they want.
