TEMERLOH, September 21 2026, Police have arrested seven individuals believed to be members of three criminal groups involved in stealing utility and telecommunications cables in several raids conducted here between Sept 15 and 19.
Temerloh district police chief ACP Mohd Nasyim Bahron said those arrested comprised six men and a woman, aged between 16 and 40.
Police also seized cables, vehicles and cable-cutting equipment worth about RM50,000.
He said four of the suspects had previous records for criminal and drug-related offences, while urine tests found four tested positive for methamphetamine.
Based on intelligence and interrogation, police identified three groups allegedly involved in stealing Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) cables between June and September.
The groups were identified as ‘Geng Mat Letrik’, ‘Geng Mista’ and ‘Geng Sasi’.
Mohd Nasyim said police were tracking six other men believed to be members of Geng Mista and Geng Sasi who remain at large.
All seven suspects have been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code, with investigations conducted under Sections 379 and 431A of the Penal Code, as well as Section 235(2) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He said the stolen cables were believed to have been sold to scrap metal dealers for about RM30 per kilogramme.
Mohd Nasyim stressed that cable theft not only causes financial losses but can also disrupt essential services, damage national infrastructure and endanger public safety.
Police, he added, would continue efforts to track down those involved and bring them to justice.
