KOTA TINGGI, September 21 2026, A five-year-old girl was found dead after she was believed to have been thrown into a river by her uncle at Kampung Padang, Tanjung Sedili, here, this morning.
Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Supt Yusof Othman said police received a report at about 9.30 am concerning a 37-year-old local man who was allegedly running amok with a machete while chasing a 40-year-old man.
He said preliminary investigations found that the suspect had allegedly thrown the girl into the river before the incident.
“Acting on information received, a police team rushed to the location, where a struggle broke out and resulted in one personnel sustaining injuries. The suspect was subsequently arrested,” he said in a statement today.
Yusof said a medical assistant confirmed the girl’s death, adding that her body was taken to Kota Tinggi Hospital before being transferred to the Forensic Department of Pasir Gudang Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
He said the motive and cause of the incident were still under investigation, while the suspect was also believed to have mental health issues.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
