KUALA LUMPUR, September 25 2026, A man fled the scene after the MPV he was driving overturned in a crash on the southbound North-South Expressway near Kota Setar, Kedah, leading police to discover 72 kilogrammes of cannabis worth nearly RM6 million in the vehicle.

The incident occurred at about 6pm yesterday when the Toyota Wish, driven by the man, overturned after hitting the rear of a Toyota Hilux.

According to a Harian Metro report, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled by crossing the road beside the expressway. He is believed to have later hitched a ride or travelled as a pillion on a motorcycle.

Police inspecting the Toyota Wish found four luggage bags containing a total of 120 plastic packets of suspected cannabis weighing about 72kg.

The drugs are estimated to be worth nearly RM6 million.

A source said the suspect was a local man with a previous conviction under Section 28J of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

Police are now tracking down the suspect and investigating whether the drugs were smuggled into the country from a neighbouring country.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the case, saying investigators were also looking into the suspect’s possible links to a drug syndicate in the neighbouring country.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
