KUALA LUMPUR, October 5 2026 — The Government’s strategy to diversify Tabung Haji’s (TH) investment portfolio and strengthen its risk management framework will be among the key issues raised when the Dewan Rakyat resumes today.
According to the Parliament’s Order Paper, Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut) will ask the Prime Minister during the Oral Question-and-Answer session about measures to ensure the sustainability of TH funds.
He will also seek clarification on measures to ensure TH can continue supporting Malaysians in meeting the cost of performing the haj.
The safety of Malaysians abroad is also expected to come under scrutiny, with Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN-Pekan) scheduled to ask the Foreign Minister about efforts to strengthen the registration system for Malaysians travelling or residing overseas.
He is also expected to ask whether registration should be made compulsory for Malaysians travelling to high-risk destinations, allowing them to be located and assisted quickly in the event of a tragedy, disaster or emergency.
Meanwhile, food security and Malaysia’s dependence on food imports will also be raised. Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) is scheduled to ask the Agriculture and Food Security Minister about efforts to reduce food imports, which exceeded RM90 billion in 2025, as well as measures to address the dumping of imported products.
On higher education, Oscar Ling Chai Yew (PH-Sibu) will seek an update from the Higher Education Minister on the proposed repeal of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU), including its implementation timeline, transition mechanism and the status of drafting new legislation.
Issues concerning the rights of Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) will also be discussed, particularly negotiations between the Federal and Sarawak governments involving regulatory powers over oil and gas.
Other matters expected to be raised include the National Ageing Action Plan, the contribution of the Silver Economy to gross domestic product (GDP), global calls to slow down artificial intelligence (AI) development and the proposed Malaysian AI Act.
The sitting will also see the first readings of the Sports Development (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Food (Amendment) Bill 2026.
The third meeting of the fifth session of the 15th Parliament will run for 37 days until Dec 8.
