SEREMBAN, Oct 5 (MinutesMy) — The Negeri Sembilan Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) has reaffirmed that Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir remains the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
DKU secretary Raja Norazli Raja Nordin said Tuanku Muhriz was elected by the Undangs and proclaimed as the 11th Yang Dipertuan Besar on Dec 29, 2008, before being officially installed on Oct 26, 2009, in accordance with the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959 (UUTKNS).
He said Tuanku Muhriz continued to hold the position and also remained chairman of the DKU under Article 19.
Raja Norazli said the state constitution provides that the position could only become vacant through the prescribed process, including a proper and full inquiry by the Undangs and a formal proclamation.
He stressed that none of the required conditions had been fulfilled and, as such, there was no vacancy in the position of Yang Dipertuan Besar.
He also said the DKU continued to recognise Tuanku Muhriz as the state’s ruler and chairman of the council, and did not recognise any other person as holding the position.
On matters involving Luak Sungei Ujong, Raja Norazli said Tuanku Muhriz did not intervene in the affairs of the Luak during the DKU sitting on April 17.
He explained that the council had merely received and advised on a decision already made by the Luak in accordance with its customs.
Raja Norazli also said the DKU maintained its earlier position that a document dated April 19, 2026 did not comply with the UUTKNS 1959, was unconstitutional and had no effect.
The DKU called on state and federal civil servants to continue administering Negeri Sembilan according to the law and lawful chain of command.
It also urged all parties to respect ongoing court proceedings, maintain public order and not invoke customary practices as a reason to disregard the state constitution.
