Man Dies After Hilux Plunges 100m Into Gua Musang Ravine

KOTA BHARU: A man was killed after the four-wheel-drive vehicle he was driving is believed to have skidded and plunged into a ravine about 100 metres deep at Jalan Ladang Pos Pulat, Gua Musang.

The victim and his Toyota Hilux were only discovered two days after the suspected accident.

Gua Musang police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said police received information from a member of the public at about 4.30pm yesterday regarding the discovery of the vehicle at the bottom of the ravine.

He said the victim was found unconscious inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Preliminary investigations found that the accident was believed to have occurred last Sunday, two days before the vehicle and victim were found,” he said in a statement today.

Sik said the victim’s wife had informed police that his last live location was detected on Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of the incident.

He said the victim’s colleague subsequently went to the location on Oct 6 to search for him.

The colleague eventually discovered the Toyota Hilux at the bottom of the ravine.

“Investigations found that the victim was believed to have been driving the vehicle when it skidded into the ravine while travelling downhill,” he said.

Sik said there were no known witnesses to the incident, resulting in the vehicle going unnoticed by members of the public until it was located by the victim’s colleague.

Personnel from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department later assisted in retrieving the victim’s body from the ravine.

The remains were subsequently sent to the Forensic Unit of Gua Musang Hospital for a post-mortem.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

Sik said further investigations were underway to determine the actual cause of the accident and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
