SEREMBAN: Four individuals who sought to remove the Yang Dipertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan have abandoned their legal bid after the court ruled that they could not have a second attempt at the same matter.
The decision relates to an application challenging the validity of the process to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the state ruler.
The court’s decision comes amid an ongoing constitutional dispute over the April proclamation by four purported undangs seeking to remove Tuanku Muhriz and recognise Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as his successor.
The dispute has been contested by the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU), which has maintained that Tuanku Muhriz remains the legitimate Yang Dipertuan Besar and that there is no vacancy in the position.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers has also stated that the purported proclamation was invalid, saying it did not comply with the mandatory requirements under Article 10 of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution.
The latest court development adds another chapter to the prolonged royal and constitutional dispute, which has continued since April and involved proceedings before the High Court and other legal challenges.
The matter has also triggered disagreements between the state executive council and the DKU over the legitimacy of the purported removal and the recognition of a new ruler.
