MELAKA, October 9 2026 – Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has urged Melaka voters to learn from the political crisis in Negeri Sembilan and support Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming state election on Nov 14.
Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, said Barisan Nasional (BN) had attempted to remove Negeri Sembilan’s then menteri besar, Aminuddin Harun, in April after 14 BN assemblymen withdrew their support for him.
Speaking at a ceramah on Tabung Haji in Melaka last night, he likened the incident to the Sheraton Move in February 2020, when Bersatu and several PKR MPs joined forces with BN and PAS, leading to the collapse of the PH-led federal government.
Mat Sabu said Aminuddin should have been allowed to complete his term, which was scheduled to end in 2028.
He urged voters to treat the Negeri Sembilan episode as a lesson and use the upcoming election to determine Melaka’s political direction.
He also called on voters to help PH secure more than 15 seats, the simple-majority threshold in the 28-seat Melaka state assembly.
Mat Sabu was referring to the PH-led Melaka government under Adly Zahari, which governed the state from 2018 until 2020 before collapsing following the Sheraton Move.
Meanwhile, PH has yet to decide whether to contest the Melaka election independently or form an electoral alliance with other parties.
BN has said it would negotiate with potential partners over a possible alliance, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) has been seeking cooperation with the Umno-led coalition.
BN had previously indicated an intention to work with PN in Melaka following their alliance’s victory in the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1.
Bersatu, a component party of PN, has also expressed openness to forming electoral pacts with other parties.
The Melaka state election is scheduled for Nov 14, with nomination day on Oct 31 and early voting on Nov 10.
