PUTRAJAYA, October 10 2026, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described Budget 2027 as a commitment between the government and the people, stressing that every promise must be fulfilled with trust, integrity and accountability.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the Fifth Madani Budget was developed through extensive consultations involving the Ministry of Finance, other ministries and various segments of society to address the country’s economic priorities and the people’s needs.
Speaking in a Special Madani Budget 2027 interview aired by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) tonight, he said the budget went beyond financial management, representing a pledge between the nation, its leadership and the people.
He said the government had considered a broad range of issues, including economic growth, employment opportunities, wages, minimum income and the welfare of gig economy workers.
Anwar emphasised that strong economic growth alone was insufficient if ordinary Malaysians continued to face financial pressures.
He noted that emerging challenges affecting e-hailing and p-hailing workers required attention, alongside other social welfare concerns, including animal welfare.
According to Anwar, the Madani government remained committed to improving the quality of life and protecting the dignity of Malaysians while addressing the challenges faced by different communities.
Budget 2027, themed “Reaching for the Skies, While Anchored on Our Values”, was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, with an allocation of RM510 billion.
The budget outlines eight key pillars aimed at improving public well-being, strengthening national resilience and supporting Malaysia’s long-term development.
Anwar described the budget as a “National Covenant”, emphasising that the country’s progress must ultimately translate into a better quality of life for the people and a stronger future for generations to come.
