KUALA LUMPUR: Thick smoke spotted near the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) this morning was caused by a burning streetlight, police confirmed.
Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said the incident occurred at the slip road at kilometre 0.5, along the route from Greenwood towards the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) exit.
He said the fire had been extinguished, with no injuries or fatalities reported.
According to Anuar, police were alerted by a man travelling to work who noticed thick smoke coming from a drain along the highway. However, the man was unaware of its actual cause.
Anuar added that further action regarding the incident would be handled by DUKE Highway management.
Earlier, a video showing thick smoke near the expressway went viral on social media, attracting the attention of motorists.
