MELAKA, October 14 2026— Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has hinted that he may not defend the Merlimau state seat in the upcoming Melaka state election, suggesting that he could contest in another constituency instead.
Akmal raised the possibility in a Facebook post, thanking the people of Merlimau for their support and asking his followers where he should go next.
He suggested Sungai Rambai and Serkam as possible constituencies, while leaving open the possibility of considering other options.
“Thank you, Merlimau. Where to next?” he asked in his post.
Akmal, who is also a Melaka state executive councillor, has previously expressed uncertainty about his political future following the dissolution of the state assembly.
He had earlier stated that he would not contest in the Melaka polls if Barisan Nasional (BN) decided to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan (PH), citing his political principles.
His latest remarks come amid uncertainty over the final candidate line-up and possible political cooperation ahead of the state election, scheduled for Nov 14.
Akmal won the Merlimau seat in the previous state election with a majority of 3,248 votes.
However, he has yet to confirm whether he will defend the seat or seek a new constituency in the upcoming polls.
