Russia Claims 902 Ukrainian Drones Shot Down in Overnight Attacks

MOSCOW 14 October 2026, Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air defence systems shot down 902 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 180 approaching Moscow, in one of the largest drone attacks on the Russian capital in recent weeks.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said the drones were intercepted across about 20 Russian regions and the annexed Crimean peninsula.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that 180 drones had been destroyed as they approached the capital, according to a post on Telegram.

The reported attacks disrupted air traffic at Moscow’s airports, with operations at Vnukovo Airport suspended for more than eight hours, airport authorities said.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had launched what it described as a “massive strike with high-precision weapons” against energy and communications infrastructure in Kyiv and the surrounding region, as well as in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.

The ministry claimed the targeted facilities supported Ukraine’s military operations.

The claims from both sides could not be independently verified from the supplied report.
