BEIJING, October 15 2026, Malaysia and China are looking to strengthen bilateral cooperation beyond investment and technology transfer, with greater emphasis on knowledge-sharing across key industries, particularly electric vehicles (EVs).
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the matter was among the key issues discussed during his meeting with Chinese Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang at the Great Hall of the People here on Thursday.
Ahmad Zahid said China had expressed its willingness to extend cooperation beyond investments by Chinese companies to include sharing technological expertise and industry knowledge with Malaysia.
He welcomed the initiative, saying knowledge-sharing would help Malaysia strengthen its industrial capabilities and support the development of various sectors.
The discussions also covered potential financing for major Malaysian development projects through the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank).
According to Ahmad Zahid, China was prepared to consider financing projects with significant economic benefits, beyond the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL).
He said the outcomes of the meeting would be conveyed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for further consideration and action.
The visit marks Ahmad Zahid’s third trip to China since assuming the position of Deputy Prime Minister in December 2022.
Malaysia-China trade increased by 35.1 per cent to RM456.68 billion from January to August this year compared with the corresponding period last year.
