Firefighters Struggle to Extinguish Blaze at Pasir Gudang Dump Site

JOHOR BAHRU, October 15 2026, Firefighters are battling a blaze at a rubbish disposal site in Jalan Muhibbah, Kampung Pasir Putih, near Pasir Gudang, which broke out last night.

Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Zuhdieyusni Said said 18 firefighters, supported by fire engines and other equipment, were deployed to the scene following an emergency call at 10.04 pm. A team from the Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Station also joined the operation.

As of 3.17 am today, the fire had affected an area of 500 square feet (46.45 square metres) near stored fibre materials, including piles of buoy blocks stacked up to 10 feet high.

Mohd Zuhdieyusni said the operation was being hampered by the shortage of nearby water sources.

Firefighters have resorted to using portable pumps to draw seawater, while fire engines make repeated trips to a hydrant located 3.5 kilometres away to replenish their water supplies, he said in a statement.

He added that firefighting efforts were still underway and no casualties had been reported.

The incident has also attracted attention on social media, where photographs and videos of the blaze were widely shared last night.
