Melaka Election: Pakatan Harapan Identified Candidates Two Years Ago, Says Amirudin

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) identified its candidates for the 16th Melaka State Election (PRN) two years ago, said PH Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the candidate list would be finalised in consultation with the coalition’s president and top leadership before the official announcement scheduled for October 24.

“We will finalise the list because I will make the official announcement on October 24. Before that, I will compile and decide on the candidates together with the president and top leadership.

“The candidates were identified a long time ago, two years back,” he said.

Commenting on whether PH would field a large number of new faces, Amirudin said the selected candidates would come from diverse backgrounds, including young and older individuals, professionals and experienced figures.

“There will be young and older candidates, professionals and experienced individuals. However, they must be at least 18 years old and eligible to vote,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after attending the launch of Malaysia’s Next-Generation Semiconductor Innovation: Six Locally Developed Chips, held in conjunction with the Selangor AI and Semiconductor Summit 2026 on Friday.

Amirudin also expressed confidence in PH’s chances of winning the election, although he acknowledged that the final decision rests with the voters.

“God willing, we are confident of winning,” he said.

The 16th Melaka State Election is scheduled for November 14, following the dissolution of the 15th Melaka State Legislative Assembly on September 23.

The Election Commission (EC) has set October 31 for nomination day, while early voting will take place on November 10.
