Six Malaysian Chip Innovations Could Generate RM300 Million in Sales, Says Akmal Nasrullah

KUALA LUMPUR: Six locally developed semiconductor chip innovations have the potential to generate combined sales of approximately RM300 million, highlighting the commercial opportunities for Malaysian-made chip technologies in global markets.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the innovations demonstrated Malaysia’s ability to develop homegrown technologies with international market potential.

“Instead of looking only at how many chips pass through Malaysia, we must also consider how many are designed here, how much intellectual property is developed and owned locally, and how much value remains within our economy,” he said.

He was speaking at the launch of Malaysia’s Next-Generation Semiconductor Innovation: Six Locally Developed Chips, held in conjunction with the Selangor AI and Semiconductor Summit 2026 on Friday.

The six innovations cover a range of technologies, including an artificial intelligence (AI) processor for edge devices developed by SkyeChip, an AI storage solution by MaiStorage and a locally developed field-programmable gate array (FPGA) chip by SiliconX.

The other innovations comprise an automotive power electronics controller by Infinecs, a satellite power controller chip by Weeroc Space and an autonomous drone flight controller developed by Alphaswift.

Akmal Nasrullah said the next priority was to ensure the technologies gained customer acceptance, met industry standards and progressed towards successful commercialisation.

He added that these efforts were essential to strengthening Malaysia’s position in the global semiconductor value chain while creating more high-skilled employment opportunities.
