Malaysia’s Cybercrime Cases More Than Double in 2025, Losses Surge to RM238 Million

DOSM statistics show cybercrime cases rose 109.9% year-on-year, highlighting growing financial risks from digital threats.

Cybercrime cases in Malaysia more than doubled in 2025, rising 109.9 per cent from 708 cases in 2024 to 1,486 cases, while the value of losses surged from RM33 million to RM238 million.

The figures were reported by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) in its Crime Statistics, Malaysia, 2025 publication, which compares crime trends between 2024 and 2025 using the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS).

The sharp increase in reported cases and financial losses highlights the growing threat of cybercrime and the potential financial impact on victims.

Beyond cybercrime, the report also recorded a significant rise in face-to-face fraud cases, which increased 85.3 per cent from 37,240 cases in 2024 to 69,001 cases in 2025.

While both categories recorded substantial increases, the cybercrime figures stand out for the sharp rise in reported financial losses, underscoring the importance of stronger digital security awareness and measures to protect individuals and businesses from online threats.
