Ramanan Urges PH Candidates to Strengthen Campaign Teams Ahead of Melaka Polls

ALOR GAJAH, October 18 2026, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates contesting the Nov 14 Melaka state election have been urged to establish strong campaign teams to improve their chances of securing voter support.

PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said candidates should not rely solely on their track records in serving the community, stressing that effective campaign machinery was necessary to reach voters across different areas.

He said candidates needed capable teams to coordinate campaign activities and engage with the public, as they could not personally be present at every location.

Speaking to reporters after attending the HRD Corp Pocket Talk Roadshow themed Dari Dasar ke Rakyat (From Policy to the People), Ramanan said candidates should move beyond traditional campaigning methods and adapt to the demands of the current political landscape.

He also highlighted the importance of selecting candidates who actively engage with the public, work at the grassroots level and enjoy community support, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s emphasis on candidate quality.

Ramanan added that PH’s candidate selection process included background checks, including criminal records and financial standing, to assess candidates’ credibility and ensure they met the required criteria.

The nomination day for the Melaka state election is scheduled for Oct 31, while early voting will take place on Nov 10.

In the 2021 Melaka state election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 of the 28 state seats, while PH secured five and Perikatan Nasional (PN) won two.
