IPOH: A 73-year-old retiree has lost RM132,590 from the proceeds of his house sale after falling victim to a non-existent online foreign exchange investment scheme on July 4.
Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Chua Kok Lian said the victim lodged a police report yesterday.
Preliminary investigations found that the man was introduced to the investment scheme by an acquaintance who promised high returns, prompting him to participate.
Chua said the victim made several investments over approximately two months, transferring a total of RM132,590.
The victim realised he had been scammed on Sept 14 when he could no longer access the investment platform. He also failed to receive any promised profits or a refund of his capital.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code, with further investigations underway to identify those involved in the scam.
