Malaysia May Consider Full Waze Ban, Says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, 23 October 2026 , The government may consider a complete ban on Waze in Malaysia, with national security concerns cited as a key factor, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar said the decision would depend partly on whether available alternatives, including locally developed navigation applications, could adequately meet users’ needs.

He said he had already prohibited civil servants from using Waze, citing concerns over the application’s reported links to Israel and the legal jurisdiction governing its use.

Anwar stressed that the matter required urgent attention, arguing that the security of the country and its people must take precedence.

He made the remarks to reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Al-Mustaqim in Taman Nirwana, Kuala Lumpur, on Friday.
