PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating alleged failures by social media platforms to prevent the livestreaming of an attack on a teacher at an international school in Sarawak.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the commission was conducting further investigations before issuing an official statement on the matter.
Fahmi noted that similar incidents had occurred in other countries, where social media platforms had failed to stop livestreams showing acts of violence.
He said the MCMC would provide further updates once its investigation was completed.
Sarawak police previously confirmed that a 16-year-old male student livestreamed an attack on a female teacher at the school.
The victim reportedly sustained injuries to her hand in the incident, which occurred at approximately 8.03 am last Wednesday.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957.
