Willie Calls for Unity as Sarawak Heads Into 13th State Election

KUCHING, Oct 23: Datuk Willie Anak Mongin has called on Sarawakians to give Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) another mandate in the upcoming 13th Sarawak State Election, saying continuity in leadership is crucial to sustaining the state’s development and protecting its interests.

Willie said GPS, under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, had laid the foundation for Sarawak’s transformation through economic development, infrastructure expansion, digitalisation and efforts to strengthen the state’s financial capacity and autonomy.

While acknowledging that challenges remained, particularly in rural and remote areas, he said the next phase of development must focus on ensuring that economic progress translated into tangible benefits for ordinary Sarawakians.

“Development must reach every village, longhouse and household,” he said in a statement issued ahead of the 13th state election.

He identified rural infrastructure, reliable water and electricity supplies, road connectivity, healthcare, education, employment opportunities and the cost of living as key issues requiring continued attention.

Willie said voters should assess political parties based on their track records, policy proposals and ability to deliver results, rather than promises and slogans.

He added that continuity must be accompanied by accountability, with the government expected to address existing weaknesses, manage public resources responsibly and ensure that development benefits all communities.

Willie also urged Sarawakians to preserve racial and religious harmony throughout the election campaign, stressing that political differences should not undermine the state’s stability.

He called on voters to support GPS candidates, saying a fresh mandate would allow the coalition to continue its development agenda and build a more prosperous and inclusive Sarawak.
