KOTA BHARU, Oct 30 – The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has prepared a service continuity plan to ensure firefighting and rescue operations continue during the 2026/2027 Northeast Monsoon.
The plan will allow the department to relocate personnel and equipment if fire stations are affected by flooding.
State JBPM director Farhan Sufyan Borhan said alternative locations had been identified to serve as temporary coordination centres.
This will help ensure emergency services remain available even when fire stations become inaccessible.
Plan Covers Previous Flood Experiences
Farhan said the plan takes into account previous floods that affected fire stations in the state.
These include the 2014 floods at the Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station and the 2024 floods at the Rantau Panjang Fire and Rescue Station.
He explained that the plan was introduced last year. It covers not only these two stations but also other locations that could face similar risks.
Flood conditions can change quickly. Therefore, the department has prepared alternative arrangements to keep its services running.
Rescue Preparations for Remote Areas
The department has also identified high-risk areas that could become isolated during floods.
These include parts of Gua Musang and Lojing, where rising water levels could cut off road access.
According to Farhan, JBPM is working with other rescue and emergency agencies to coordinate operations.
Joint discussions and exercises are also being conducted to prepare for possible emergencies.
Emergency Supplies and Helicopters Ready
JBPM has identified safer temporary relief centres in areas that could become isolated.
Essential supplies have also been stored at these locations to support residents during emergencies.
In addition, the department can deploy helicopters to rescue residents or evacuate victims when roads become impassable.
Farhan said the preparations would also help residents in high-risk areas understand where to seek shelter if floods cut off access to their communities.
The department aims to ensure that firefighting, rescue and emergency response services continue throughout the monsoon season.
