MELAKA, Nov 2 – Melaka police have issued 29 permits for political talks since the state election campaign began on Saturday.
So far, police have received no reports of disturbances during the campaign. However, they have recorded one case involving damage to election campaign materials.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said Melaka Tengah recorded the highest number of permits, with 11 approvals.
Alor Gajah followed with 10 permits, while Jasin recorded eight.
Police Warn Candidates Against Provocation
Dzulkhairi urged candidates, political parties and supporters to follow the law throughout the campaign.
He warned against actions that could create tension or disturb public order.
He also reminded candidates not to raise sensitive issues involving race, religion and royalty, commonly known as 3R issues.
The reminder aims to protect harmony in Malaysia’s multiracial society.
Campaign Materials Must Follow Safety Rules
Police also stressed the need to display campaign materials safely.
Flags, posters and banners must not block drivers’ views or disrupt traffic. This is especially important near traffic lights and along busy roads.
Dzulkhairi said all campaign materials must follow the rules set by the relevant authorities.
He also reminded political parties that places of worship, government buildings and local authority premises cannot be used for election activities without the required permission.
Political parties are also prohibited from using government vehicles and communication equipment for campaigning.
Police Call for Responsible Election Campaigns
Dzulkhairi called on all candidates and supporters to conduct their activities in a mature and responsible manner.
He said cooperation from all parties would help ensure a peaceful and orderly election campaign.
