MIC Officially Joins Perikatan Nasional, says Takiyuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has been officially admitted as a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN) as reported by Berita Harian.

PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the coalition had approved MIC’s application in December, with its Supreme Council formally confirming the decision last Saturday.

We have officially confirmed the party’s admission, making it the fifth component party of PN,” he said.

Takiyuddin, who also serves as secretary-general of Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), added that he is scheduled to meet MIC president SA Vigneswaran to hand over the official letter of admission.

Minutes MY is making its efforts to obtain comment from MIC.

Earlier in January, Vigneswaran said the party’s top leadership would convene to discuss its formal entry into PN, despite the coalition having already approved its application.

Speculation over MIC’s departure from Barisan Nasional (BN) has persisted for months, particularly following its general assembly in November, where delegates gave the leadership a mandate to consider leaving amid concerns over the party’s role and relevance within the coalition.
