SINGAPORE, November 3 – Sentosa will welcome a new cultural festival inspired by China’s Tang Dynasty during the 2027 Lunar New Year celebrations.
Titled “THE GREAT TANG: BY THE SEA”, the event will run from January 22 to February 14, 2027, at Palawan Green, Sentosa.
The festival aims to bring the history and culture of ancient Chang’an together with Singapore’s multicultural Nanyang identity.
The event is being developed by Singapore-based PushButton Entertainment, Xi’an Qujiang Cultural Tourism Co., Ltd. and JZBB Pte Ltd, in partnership with Sentosa Development Corporation.
Tang Dynasty Culture Meets Singapore’s Nanyang Heritage
The festival draws inspiration from Chang’an, the ancient capital of the Tang Dynasty and an important centre of trade along the Silk Road.
The city welcomed people from different regions and cultures. Their exchanges helped shape its food, fashion, music and traditions.
Organisers aim to connect this history with Singapore’s own multicultural identity.
Visitors will experience this cultural blend through entertainment, food, fashion and interactive activities.
Visitors Can Enjoy Cultural Activities and Workshops
The programme will feature a range of activities for families and visitors of different ages.
These include carnival games, cultural workshops, traditional clothing experiences, food stalls and a creative market.
Visitors will also have opportunities to try on hanfu, traditional Chinese clothing associated with historical periods.
The waterfront setting will offer a festive space for families and friends to enjoy the Lunar New Year together.
Datang Everbright City Experience Comes to Sentosa
One of the festival’s main inspirations is Datang Everbright City, a popular Tang-themed cultural district in Xi’an, China.
The pedestrian attraction stretches about 2.1 kilometres and features traditional architecture, performances, food outlets and retail experiences.
It welcomed more than 86 million visitors in 2025, according to the organisers.
The Sentosa festival will bring elements of this cultural experience outside China for the first time. Organisers will adapt it to Singapore’s setting and Nanyang character.
Xi’an Food and Halal Options Among the Highlights
Food will also play an important role in the celebration.
Selected vendors from Xi’an are expected to introduce dishes inspired by the city’s well-known Muslim Quarter.
These offerings will sit alongside Singaporean and Southeast Asian favourites.
Organisers also confirmed that halal-certified food options will be available. This will help make the festival more welcoming to Muslim families and visitors.
Three-Year Cultural Collaboration Planned
The partners marked their collaboration with a signing ceremony in Xi’an.
They intend to develop the Lunar New Year celebration at Sentosa over three years, starting in 2027.
The project aims to create a cultural event that can grow while highlighting heritage, community and shared experiences.
Sentosa Development Corporation said the festival will add a new cultural attraction to the island’s festive calendar.
Further details about the programme, food offerings and ticketing will be announced later.
