PN to Treat MIC’s Silence as Rejection of Membership Offer

KOTA BHARU — Perikatan Nasional (PN) will regard the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) as having rejected its invitation to join the coalition if no official response is received soon, said PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, as reported by Sinar Harian.

He said PN had given MIC sufficient time to confirm whether it would accept or decline the offer, but stressed that the matter could not be left unresolved indefinitely.

“MIC can reply via letter or issue a statement, but if there is no prompt response, we will consider it a rejection,” he told reporters at an Aidilfitri open house held at Dataran Warisan, Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV in Kota Bharu.

Takiyuddin also expressed confusion over MIC’s statement that it would remain with Barisan Nasional (BN) for now, urging the party to clarify its position.

“If they say they never applied, they should prove it. I have the letter,” he added.

He explained that MIC’s application was discussed at a PN meeting on Dec 9, 2025, and subsequently approved, which would have made MIC the coalition’s fifth component party alongside PAS, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan), and Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP).

The decision was reaffirmed at a meeting on March 14 before an official offer letter was sent to MIC on March 23.

However, Takiyuddin said MIC’s central working committee decided on March 25 not to accept the offer, despite no formal reply being submitted to PN.
