Batik Air Relaunches Colombo–Kuala Lumpur Service in Support of Visit Malaysia 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, 31 MARCH 2026 –Batik Air marked the successful relaunch of its Colombo– Kuala Lumpur service yesterday, welcoming the arrival of Flight OD298 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA Terminal 1), reconnecting Malaysia and Sri Lanka once again.

Previously part of the airline’s international network, the Colombo route was suspended in early 2024 as part of a broader network realignment. Its reinstatement reflects a strong resurgence in passenger traffic between the two countries and underscores Batik Air’s continued commitment to restoring and strengthening key regional links.

The return of this service comes at a strategic time in support of Visit Malaysia Year 2026, further positioning Kuala Lumpur as a vital gateway for travellers across the region.

The route is expected to facilitate increased movement between Sri Lanka and Malaysia, while offering seamless onward connectivity to Batik Air’s expanding network across Asia-Pacific.

The inaugural arrival was commemorated by the presence of Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director General (Promotions II) Samuel Lee Thai Hung and Senior Director of International Promotions (Asia & Africa) Nuwal Fadhilah Ku Azmi. Passengers were warmly received upon arrival, with Tourism Malaysia presenting commemorative goodies to mark the occasion. Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, Tourism Malaysia mascots Wira and Manja were present to welcome passengers, creating a memorable first arrival experience.

The Chief Executive Officer of Batik Air said the relaunch reflects the airline’s forward-looking strategy in strengthening regional connectivity while supporting national tourism ambitions.

“The return of our Colombo service marks an important step in rebuilding our network in line with renewed travel demand. As Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, this route enhances Kuala Lumpur’s role as a strategic hub, enabling us to attract more travellers from the Indian Subcontinent, as well as key North Asian markets including China, Japan, and South Korea.

Batik Air remains committed to facilitating seamless connectivity and contributing to the growth of Malaysia’s tourism sector.”

The reinstated Colombo-Kuala Lumpur service reinforces Batik Air’s position as a key connector within the region, supporting tourism, business, and cultural exchange between the two countries while bringing greater travel convenience to passengers.
