DAP Urges Public Action on Energy Crisis, Backs Reforms and Road Safety Measures

KUALA LUMPUR, April 7, 2026 — The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) has called on its leaders and elected representatives to step up engagement with grassroots communities to raise awareness about the global energy crisis.

In a statement following its monthly meeting, Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook said party members have been tasked with educating the public on the seriousness of the situation, while encouraging energy-saving practices such as more prudent vehicle use to help reduce fuel demand.

The meeting was briefed on the escalating crisis linked to ongoing conflict in West Asia and its potential impact on Malaysia’s oil supply after May. Leaders deliberated extensively on the implications and adopted several key resolutions.

DAP also expressed support for the government’s comprehensive efforts to manage the crisis, stressing the need to safeguard economic sustainability and public well-being while ensuring prudent management of national resources.

On institutional reform, the CEC directed its representatives in the Parliamentary Select Committee on the Separation of Powers of the Attorney General to expedite improvements to the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill, with the aim of tabling it during the June parliamentary sitting.

In education, the party urged the government to continue its policy of granting automatic matriculation placements to all SPM 2025 students who achieve 10 A’s and above, while ensuring fair consideration for other high-achieving students within existing capacity.

The committee also voiced strong support for stricter enforcement against drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, particularly in cases involving fatalities, underscoring the need for firm action to enhance road safety and accountability.

Loke said the measures reflect the party’s commitment to addressing immediate challenges while safeguarding long-term national interests.
