JASIN — Ab Rauf Yusoh has rejected the resignation of Muhamad Akmal Saleh as a Melaka state executive councillor (Exco), confirming that the latter will resume his duties.
Ab Rauf said the decision falls under his prerogative as Chief Minister, adding that Akmal is expected to continue serving as chairman of the state Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Committee, as reported by Bernama.
“I have made the decision to reject his resignation letter as an Exco member. The prerogative to accept or reject a resignation lies solely with the Chief Minister,” he told reporters after visiting the Phase Two Jus Water Treatment Plant construction project here today.
Akmal, who is also Jasin UMNO division chief and Merlimau assemblyman, had announced his intention to step down in January during his keynote address at the 2025 UMNO Youth General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur.
He has held the Exco position since April 2023. His earlier decision to resign was widely seen as linked to pressure from several leaders within Democratic Action Party (DAP) following his remarks urging UMNO to reassess its role in the Unity Government.
