Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA Earns MOTAC Green Hotel Certification For Sustainability

SEPANG, April 23 2026– Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA has become the first hotel in Selangor to receive the Green Hotel Certification from the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC), marking a significant milestone in its sustainability journey.

The recognition reflects the hotel’s comprehensive implementation of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices across its operations.

The certificate was handed over by Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling to Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA general manager Sundra Kulendra in conjunction with the Earth Day Celebration here last night.

Commenting on the Green Hotel Certification, Sundra said sustainability is no longer optional in the hospitality industry, but a responsibility that all must embrace.

“Receiving the Green Hotel Certification from MOTAC affirms that our ESG journey is on the right path.

“On this meaningful Earth Day, we are proud to celebrate this achievement while sharing it with the community through inclusive initiatives involving children with autism and a symbolic light-off moment that represents our collective commitment to the planet,” he told Bernama.

As part of the Earth Day celebration, Sama-sama Hotel KLIA held a symbolic lighting moment where the hotel switched off its lights for one hour, with guests encouraged to participate, before illuminating a soft glow accompanied by candles held by participants.

The hotel also exhibits an artwork by 15 children with autism, who created Earth Day-themed artwork on white paper bags, reflecting an inclusive approach to environmental awareness through creativity and education.

As a gateway hotel connected directly to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA has positioned sustainability not as a standalone initiative, but as a long-term operational philosophy integrated across all departments.

Among its key initiatives include food waste decomposition programme, where all food waste from its kitchens is processed using a decomposer machine and converted into organic fertiliser, which is then distributed to guests and the surrounding community.

In line with its zero-waste approach, the hotel’s Food and Beverage department has implemented a zero per cent single-use plastic policy, replacing plastics with reusable and biodegradable alternatives, while adopting recyclable food containers.

Sama-Sama Hotel KLIA also employs a structured waste segregation system to ensure proper processing, recycling and responsible disposal of waste.

In addition, its housekeeping operations have also adopted environmentally friendly, chemical-free cleaning solutions, reducing harmful discharge into water systems and improving indoor air quality.

Looking ahead, the hotel plans to introduce electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and integrate solar energy as part of its 2026 sustainability roadmap, in support of Malaysia’s green mobility and renewable energy agenda.
