MELAKA, April 29 2026– The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has conducted 636 audits on the quality of communication line services in Melaka from 2025 to March 31 this year, the State Legislative Assembly sitting was told today.
State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan said close attention was given to areas where public complaints had been received during the audits.
“If the audit findings show that a telco has failed to comply with the Mandatory Standards for Quality of Service (MSQoS), a compliance notice will be issued immediately.
“Telcos issued with the notice are required to immediately present an improvement plan, either by upgrading equipment on existing towers or building new communication towers,” he said during the sitting at Kompleks Seri Negeri here today.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Siti Faizah Abdul Azis (BN-Sungai Rambai) on government procedures in addressing disruptions to mobile line services.
Elaborating, Fairul Nizam said that the monitoring and audits conducted had identified 24 locations in weak coverage areas as requiring new telecommunications towers under the Universal Service Provision (USP) allocation, with completion expected in stages by the second quarter of 2027.
He said 11 locations had been completed and are now operational, namely Kampung Batu Gajah, Kampung Chenderah, Kampung Air Repat, Kampung Pondok Batang, Kampung Baru Tanah Pinggir Meriang, Kampung Seri Kesang, Kampung Tersusun Datuk Mohd Hidhir, Taman Panglima Pak, Taman Bemban Heights, Asahan and Kampung Permatang Tulang.
Fairul Nizam said 13 locations are currently under implementation, involving Taman Jus Perdana, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Kampus Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Alor Gajah, Kampung Paya Lebar (Eco Cruise Sungai Linggi), Kampung Kuala Linggi, Kampung Beringin/Parit Melana, Jalan Lesung Batu, Kolej Profesional MARA Ayer Molek, Hutan Botanikal (Pintu Masuk), Hospital Jasin, Pulau Besar, Ambassador Village and Taman Belia Antarabangsa (Melaka Wonderland).
Responding to the original question from Siti Faizah on 4G and 5G coverage levels and areas with poor internet access in the Sungai Rambai state constituency, Fairul Nizam said that as of 31 March 2026, composite 4G network coverage in the area had reached 100 per cent.
“For the 5G network, Digital Nasional Berhad has achieved 83.2 per cent coverage in populated areas, while U Mobile Sdn Bhd has recorded 40 per cent coverage.
“Although the Sungai Rambai state constituency has achieved 100 per cent 4G coverage, continuous monitoring is also being carried out by the MCMC to ensure that service providers comply with the established service quality standards,” he said.
