SHAH ALAM, May 6 2026 — Legendary music group Slam is back in the spotlight after announcing The Grand Slam Unplugged 2, scheduled to take place on June 20 at the Mega Star Arena, Kuala Lumpur.
The concert serves as a sequel to their iconic unplugged performance on August 3, 1996, at Stadium Merdeka, where the band famously continued their set despite a massive nationwide power outage.
Guitarist Shah, who is also the concert organizer through SS Karya Ventures, stated that the group consisting of members Zamani, Shah, Eddie, Man, and Lili remains a cohesive unit after three decades in the industry.
“This concert is a reminiscence of Slam’s songs that have lived on from the cassette era to streaming platforms. It is an appreciation of our work and our fans,” he said during a press conference in Kuang, Sungai Buloh, yesterday.
He added that they will perform over 25 songs across three segments, with ticket sales already surpassing the 60 per cent mark.
Vocalist Zamani shared that revisiting the 1996 era is a tribute to the band’s resilience during the historic blackout, where they had to rely on generators and limited lighting to finish the show.
“We didn’t know at the time that the whole of Malaysia was experiencing a blackout. Even though the sound wasn’t what it usually was, we pushed through with the performance,” he said.
The concert will also feature guest guitarists Joe Branko, Kid Search, and Aznan Alias, alongside 20 musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra.
