KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 — Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today’s social challenges are becoming increasingly complex and require a more comprehensive approach through the National Social Policy Action Plan 2026-2030 launched today.
He said current social issues are no longer solely about aid or welfare, but also involve public safety and the resilience of family institutions.
According to him, the nation’s social policies can no longer operate in isolation or wait until issues become severe before action is taken.
“Today’s social challenges are interconnected and unfolding right before our eyes. Social well-being is no longer just about assistance, but also about public safety and family resilience,” he said during the launch ceremony of the action plan.
Ahmad Zahid said the action plan outlines three major shifts — from assistance to empowerment, from siloed approaches to a collaborative ecosystem involving multiple stakeholders, and from reactive measures to preventive action to address problems before they escalate.
He also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development and all parties involved in jointly formulating the action plan.
He said the initiatives under the plan are expected to strengthen public well-being while building a more protected, resilient and future-ready society.
