KUALA LUMPUR: The National Scam Response Centre will develop an artificial intelligence-powered application to help the public identify suspicious phone numbers, bank accounts and links before conducting transactions.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative was part of the government’s efforts to detect scams and cybercrime at an earlier stage.
Tabling Budget 2027, Anwar also announced measures to strengthen efforts to combat online child exploitation and improve internet safety.
He said Bukit Aman’s Sexual, Women and Children Investigation Division (D11) would enhance the Malaysia Internet Crime Against Children system with advanced analytical capabilities to identify perpetrators and child sexual exploitation networks more quickly.
“The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will also intensify the implementation of the Safer Internet Campaign in all schools, focusing on addressing cyberbullying and child exploitation,” he said.
RM490 million for border security
Separately, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency will receive RM490 million to strengthen border security and enforcement.
Anwar said 48 new body and baggage scanners would be installed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Penang International Airport and Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
The Home Ministry and Defence Ministry will each receive RM22 billion under Budget 2027.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said RM7.1 billion had been allocated for the procurement and maintenance of assets for the armed forces, police and uniformed agencies under the Home Ministry.
The measures are aimed at strengthening national security, enhancing border controls and improving the authorities’ capacity to tackle cybercrime and other security threats.
