AMK to Field Young Candidates in Melaka Polls, Hopes for Surprise Result

PUTRAJAYA, October 15 2026, PKR Youth (AMK) is expected to field several young leaders in the upcoming Melaka state election, with the party hoping they can deliver an unexpected electoral outcome.

AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the youth wing had submitted several potential candidates to the party’s top leadership for consideration.

He said the final number of young candidates had yet to be determined, emphasising that selection would be based on candidates’ capabilities, suitability and chances of winning rather than their age alone.

Muhammad Kamil, who is also the political secretary to the Finance Minister, added that preparations at the grassroots level were continuing ahead of the polls.

On possible cooperation with other political coalitions, he said Pakatan Harapan (PH) should concentrate on strengthening its own position instead of depending on the performance of other parties.

The Election Commission has fixed Oct 31 for nomination day, Nov 10 for early voting and Nov 14 for polling. The dates were announced following the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly on Sept 23.

In the 2021 state election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 of the 28 seats, while PH secured five and Perikatan Nasional (PN) took two.
