Anwar: No One Will Be Spared in Corporate Mafia Probe, Report to Be Released Within Three Months

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will not protect anyone implicated in alleged corporate mafia activities, with a full investigation report set to be made public within three months, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said a special task force led by the Attorney General had been established to coordinate investigations involving several enforcement agencies.

The task force includes the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Inland Revenue Board (LHDN), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and agencies responsible for enforcing the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA).

Anwar said the report must be comprehensive and transparent to dispel public concerns that certain individuals might be shielded from investigation.

He stressed that the findings should not be limited to the government or civil servants but must be disclosed to the public.

“If there is evidence, release it, regardless of who is involved,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

Anwar cited names that had been mentioned in connection with the issue, including MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, Datuk Seri Farhash Wafa Salvado and Victor Chin.

He was responding to a supplementary question from Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat), who asked whether the government would protect any parties involved in corporate mafia activities.
