Bersama Bars Nik Nazmi From Official Activities For Three Months – President

KUALA LUMPUR, October 17 2026, Former Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad will be barred from all official activities of Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) for three months, from Oct 20 to Jan 19, 2027.

Bersama president Syukri Razab said the decision followed Nik Nazmi’s admission of involvement in a case that recently came to light.

He said the party viewed the matter seriously and believed that issues involving its leadership and members must be addressed appropriately to safeguard its integrity, credibility and public confidence.

Syukri said the decision was considered necessary and reasonable, while acknowledging Nik Nazmi’s contributions and commitment to the party since its relaunch in May.

Nik Nazmi had earlier confirmed that he was one of two individuals detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) on suspicion of khalwat in Petaling Jaya last Thursday. He said he would cooperate with the legal process.

JAIS had confirmed that two individuals, including a public figure, were detained to assist in investigations under Section 29 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.
